Profile Originally from New York, Elisabeth has lived on Nantucket Island since the summer of 1994. Besides its beauty and the peacefulness of a small community, Nantucket has given her the opportunity to work seasonally, allowing for more time to pursue other interests. Having always been fascinated by the beauty of glass and its vast array of colors and textures, Elisabeth studied stained glass while spending a winter in Amherst, Massachusetts. Stained glass inevitably led her into the world of mosaics which has become her full time passion. She finds joy working with her hands, and feels that the process of making mosaics is a "practice of patience". Elisabeth enjoys each and every step of the process, starting with the inspiration from a particular china pattern, to the design, on to the nipping and gluing of each individual piece, and lastly grouting when the final piece comes to life. Elisabeth has studied with established mosaic artists in New York City and Brookfield, Connecticut and is a member of the Society of American Mosaic Artists. She is also a self-taught artist continually experimenting with different techniques and materials. |
